Slides out of a PDF
Not available yet, and the page below explains why. A PDF records finished pages, not slides with layouts and placeholders, so there is nothing in the file for a converter to rebuild a deck from.

We have not built this one, and we would rather say so than take your file and hand back something broken. A PDF records where marks sit on a page — it does not record the paragraphs, cells or slides that a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file is made of, so there is nothing in it for a converter to read back. Anything claiming otherwise is guessing.
The other direction works today and works well: Word to PDF, Excel to PDF and PowerPoint to PDF. To get pages out of a PDF as images, use PDF to JPG, which runs entirely in your browser.
Questions
- Why can I not use this yet?
- Because we will not ship something that does not work. The engine behind our other conversions opens a PDF as a *drawing* — a canvas of marks — and cannot save that as a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file. That is a limit of the format, not a setting we have left switched off: a PDF records where ink sits on a page, and does not record paragraphs, cells or slides for anything to read back. We would rather leave this honest and unfinished than take your file and hand back something broken.
- What can I do instead?
- If you still have the original document, edit that — it will always be better than anything reconstructed from a PDF. To get text out, open the PDF in a reader and copy it, or use our Compare tool to see the text a PDF contains. If you need the pages as images, PDF to JPG works today and runs entirely in your browser.
- Will it be added?
- Only if we find something that does the job properly. There are engines that attempt it, and the honest ones all produce a document made of positioned text boxes rather than flowing text you can comfortably edit. If we ship this, it will be with a plain description of what you actually get.
