Desktop App Privacy Policy

The Quicky PDF desktop app works on documents on your own computer. It collects nothing, stores nothing about you, and makes exactly one kind of network request, which has nothing to do with your files. This policy says precisely what that means.

Your documents never leave your computer
Every tool runs inside the app, on your machine. Merging, splitting, compressing, signing, redacting, filling forms, adding a password, comparing two files, converting to and from images: all of it happens locally.
You can prove this rather than take our word for it. Disconnect from the network entirely and carry on working. Everything except the update check keeps functioning, because there is nothing for it to phone home to.
The app has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising identifier. It does not record which files you open, which tools you use, or how often you use them.
The one request it makes
The app asks GitHub whether a newer version has been published. It does that shortly after you open it and occasionally while it is running, and it downloads the new version if there is one.
That request contains no information about you and none about your documents. It is a request for a small file listing the current version, the same file anyone can fetch. GitHub, like any web host, will see the network address it came from, which is the ordinary consequence of asking any computer on the internet for a file.
Nothing about that check reaches us. We do not run the server, we receive no report of it, and there is no way for us to learn that your copy checked in.
What it stores
Nothing about you. The app keeps no history of documents you have opened, no cache of their contents and no preferences that identify you.
Files you edit are saved only where you choose to save them, through the ordinary Save dialog. The app never writes a copy somewhere of its own.
Access to your files
The app can read a file when you choose it in a dialog, drop it on the window, double-click it in Finder or Explorer, or pick it from the right-click menu. It has no ability to go looking for files you have not offered it.
That is enforced rather than promised: the part of the app that handles PDFs cannot name a file at all. It can ask for a dialog and work on what comes back, and nothing else.
Children
The app is a document tool with no accounts and no social features, and it is not directed at children. Since it collects no data from anyone, it collects none from children either.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever starts doing something this policy does not describe, the policy changes in the same release, and the date at the top of this page changes with it.
